The app uses public Australia-wide baby-name ranking data and applies a consistent source priority when sources overlap.
Coverage notes
What the data means
Rankings are based on available Australian baby-name data. Where multiple sources cover the same year and gender, official or reported national ranking rows are preferred first, calculated Australia-wide totals are used next, and broader public lists are used only as fallback or to fill names beyond the higher-priority source cut-off.
If a name is missing from a year, it may mean the name was outside the published list, not that it had zero births.

| List type | Mostly published top-100 rankings. The public pages focus on rank order because birth counts are not consistently available across sources. |
| Overlap handling | When sources disagree for the same name, year and gender, the higher-priority source is shown so name pages and ranking pages stay consistent. |
| Meaning and origin metadata | Stored separately in data/clean/name_metadata.csv. Not every name has meaning data yet, and meanings or origins can vary by source. |
